Career Based Intervention Middle School(CBI) Overview

The Career-Based Intervention (CBI) program is a Career-Technical Education Program designed for students ages 12-21 in grades 7-12 who are identified as disadvantaged (either academically or economically or both) or students with disabilities and who have barriers to achieving academic and career success. The program is to help students improve academic competence, graduate from high school, develop professional skills, implement a career plan and participate in a career pathway in preparation for postsecondary education and/or careers.

At (insert schools name), Career Based Intervention is a program designed to help students realize their potential by helping them explore the many careers that are in the world today. It allows students to discover what their strengths are and then teaches them how to use those strengths to become successful in school, work, and life.

Career Based Intervention students explore career options as well as what kinds of post secondary options and financial options may be available to them. They are also exposed to many in demand careers that they did not know existed.  The premise of the program is to help students find their passion and use that passion to form goals to graduate, get additional education through a college or technical school, and enter the workforce.

7th and 8th grade (insert school name) students are provided with CBI instruction that is embedded into their core subject area courses in addition to the stand alone CBI class. CBI instruction focuses on six areas: academic intervention; employability skills; career exploration; implementation of a career plan; and participation in a career pathway with options for both further education and jobs.

In K-12 education, we measure success based on the student earning a high school diploma, but we want our students to graduate with a “Diploma Plus”. In today’s economy, it takes more than a high school diploma to prepare for a living wage occupation and participating in our CBI program will give our students a competitive advantage in their high school and post-secondary college or career pathway!
